Passion! The Irresistible Beauty of Orchids
Kew Gardens is proud to host its 11th Annual Orchid Festival, where over 250,000 orchids of all shapes and colours adorn the steamy Princess of Wales Conservatory. Various new designs have been created by Kew’s own talented horticultural team using orchids from Kew's orchid collection, as well as thousands flown in from places as far away as Singapore.
This year’s Festival demonstrates orchids’ magical allure and their effect on people from diverse walks of life and professions. It highlights seven people who share one thing: a passion for orchids. They provide a varied series of insights into the world of orchids, touching on their glamour, vulnerability, historical status, and sheer aesthetic appeal.
19 March – 17 April
Bulb Burst: over 4 million breathtaking bulbs
This year, witness spring bulbs on a truly unprecedented scale. Over 4 million bulbs will be pushing their way through Kew’s soil between the months of January and May. Large swathes of crocuses and daffodils will colour the landscape but look harder and you will also see more unusual species including Chionodoxa siehei and Fritillaria meleagris. Newly planted bulbs coming up for the first time this year include red and white Hippeastrum and hyacinths inside the Temperate House and Sternbergia lutea outside the Princess of Wales Conservatory.
There will be guided Splendour in the Grass tours of the spring bulbs at Kew running twice a week. These one hour tours will point out the best displays on offer as well as the rarer species. On Good Friday, the Easter weekend and Bank Holiday Monday these will be replaced by tours of plants with biblical associations.
Easter Holiday Fun for all the Family!
Easter Holidays 25 March – 10 April / Easter Weekend 25-28 March
