Aulne Abbey and Val de Sambre Brewery
Transfer by coach and
Walking guided
tour
|
A coach
will take you to Aulne Abbey. A
Cistercian abbey, according to
legend, it was founded by Saint
Landelin in 657. In 1147, the
Prince-Bishop of Liège, Henri II of
Leyen, offered Aulne to Saint
Bernard, the abbot of Clairvaux,
propagator of the Cistercian
reformation. In the 16th and 18th
centuries, the "Ada" was to
encounter its abbot builders. In
1794, it was destroyed by French
revolutionaries. Accompanied by a
guide, you will walk in the court of
honor, admire the remains of the
grandiose abbey church from the 13th
century and learn all about the life
of the monks and the workings of the
abbey. The tour of the ruins, which
are extremely beautiful, will be
followed by a visit to the Val de
Sambre brewery. This visit to a
traditional micro-brewery, situated
in one wing of the ancient
buildings, will allow you to
discover the famous beers of ADA
abbey. In a beautiful, vaulted 18th
century room, the brewer himself
will show you the installations and
explain the brewing process. The
visit will end with a taste of the
beer of your choice.

Tournai
Walking
Guided tour . Duration
2 h.
|
The tour turns around the
Grand'Place which is a good starting point from which to
explore the town. This beautiful esplanade suffered the
agonies of a fire following bombings in 1940. Numerous
houses were destroyed but the southern side, flanked by the
Halle aux Draps, escaped destruction. Triangular in form,
the Grand'Place offers a lovely view of the cathedral
towers. You will visit the cathedral and the oldest belfry
in Belgium, two buildings listed as world heritage sites by
UNESCO. |
