Zipping along by 4WD, you'll have several photo stops during an exciting drive across the dunes to your first destination, a camel farm. The drive continues across the desert and you will witness a beautiful desert sunset. It's one of the highlights of a trip to the Arabian desert. Upon arrival at your campsite, you have the opportunity to ride on a camel, experience the thrill of sandboarding and try out a henna design on your hands or feet. After all that activity you will have worked up an appetite, so enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner and a shisha (the famous Arabic water pipe). The evening also includes a belly dancer performing her show around the campfire in the moonlight (except during Ramadan). Please note: The belly dancer does not perform during Ramadan and alcohol will only be served after 7pm. Important Information:Vehicles: Buses used for excursions are of the highest standard available. All buses are air-conditioned and equipped with a microphone. 4x4 vehicles used for the off-road safaris are air-conditioned with a maximum capacity of 6 passengers plus driver. All drivers are qualified off-road professionals, first-aid trained and carry cell phones. All vehicles are equipped with seat-belts and passengers are required to wear them at all times. Dress Code: Lightweight summer clothing is suitable for most of the year, but sweaters or jackets may be needed for the winter months, especially in the evenings. Good quality sunglasses are advised, and photo-chromatic lenses for those who wear spectacles. Hats or some protection for the head are advisable when in direct sunlight. The United Arab Emirates has conservative dress traditions. Swimwear should be confined to the beach and hotel pools. Men and women should ensure shoulders and knees are covered when in public, especially in souks, shops and villages. Photography: Normal tourist photography is acceptable, but it is considered offensive to photograph Arab women. It is also courteous to ask permission before photographing men. Photographs of government buildings or military installations are not allowed. We were picked up from the hotel and drove for about an hour to the meeting point. My boyfriend commented that a taxi in the UK would be more than the cost of the entire package for that trip alone! We met up with the convoy and proceeded to dune bash, with a short stop in the middle. We then went to the camel farm, and then onto the camp. We did the camel ride, and then sand boarded, then had a henna design and at that point we watched the traditional dance in the center of the camp. Dinner was then served which was a selection of salads/pittas/rice/a curry (I think)/beef patty/lamb chops/marinated chicken, and was very nice! Tea and coffee next, along with mini pastries and then a belly dance. At no point in the evening did we think that things were moving too slow and that we wanted to go home. There were flushing toilets too! Our driver took us back to the hotel and we arrived at about 9.30 pm (from 3pm). Brilliant - totally aimed at the tourists, but that is what we were and it was thoroughly enjoyable. However, be aware that 4X4 dune riding is the longest activity (almost two hours) as the camel riding and sand surfing do not last very long. I would suggest in the future to increase a bit the time spent for those two activities as well.
