IntroductionCruise the waters of the River Seine before enjoying a unique view of old Paris from the canal Saint Martin. See many of the major attractions of Paris from the water including Notre Dame and The Louvre. This two and a half hour cruise on the River Seine and the canal Saint Martin gives a unique view of Paris. You will experience both the grandeur of the Seine and the quiet intimacy of Paris' network of inner-urban canals, created by Napoleon Bonaparte in the early 1800s. Along the way, your informative guide-interpreter will provide illuminating insights into the history of Paris and its canals.
Your River Seine cruise begins near the Musee d'Orsay and sweeps you past a parade of monuments: the Louvre Museum, the Institute of France, the spires of Notre Dame Cathedral and tiny Ile Saint Louis, before arriving at the entrance of the Canal Saint Martin.
The first section of the canal takes you through an eerily lit tunnel which passes under the Place de la Bastille. Emerging from the tunnel you will discover the most romantic "boulevard" in Paris - the Canal Saint Martin's three miles of pure poetry. Reflected in the canal's waters you'll see old swing bridges, half-moon footbridges and the abundant foliage of horse-chestnut trees.
A trip along the Canal Saint Martin reveals a side of Paris that tourists don't usually get to see. The canal winds its way through a series of 19th-century locks and enchanting old areas of Paris until, 26 meters above the Seine, the canal reaches the Villette Basin. Here you will pass the raised Crimee Bridge before arriving at La Villette Park, where the Science Museum, the Geode and enchanting gardens await you.
Note that the morning tour begins near Musee d'Orsay and ends at Bassin de la Villette. In the afternoon the schedule is reversed, beginning at Bassin de la Villette and ending near Musee d'Orsay. Our three year old daughter loved it! 2011-10-07 Troy , Australia Totally enjoyable travelling through the canal, locks and tree lined avenue 2011-10-06 Clement E , Lovely cruise well worth it. 2011-10-03 rosemarie s , This was the best tour we purchased, The tour took place early in the morning for Paris, and so it wasn't crowded at all. The Seine River cruise was beautiful, and the canals were amazing, definitely a side of Paris that one does not get to see very often. The tour guide was very informative, and explained a lot of the history about the locks in the canal, and the neighborhoods we passed by. I would definitely do this tour again. In Northern Paris, where the tour ended, there was a great little canal front cafe and restaurant called "Belushis" that served yummy food, and there were lots of Metro and Bus stops nearby. This was a 5 star tour, and I would highly recommend it! 2011-09-29 Damon D , A unique experience. Something you must do when visiting Paris - a very different experience from any other. Just watching the locks fill with water while the boat rises on the brim. Exceptional. 2011-09-25 Patricia J H , We really enjoyed our morning cruise-interesting trip with lockes and tunnel and great commentary Very relaxing morning plus price of cruise excellent To complete day at end of cruise we walked into cafe area and had alovely meal in local restuarant before catching underground back to our base.A great tour and would recommend it.! 2011-09-25 chapple1 , We really enjoyed our morning cruise-interesting trip with lockes and tunnel and great commentary Very relaxing morning plus price of cruise excellent To complete day at end of cruise we walked into cafe area and had alovely meal in local restuarant before catching underground back to our base.A great tour and would recommend it.! 2011-09-25 chapple1 , This was different from the traditional Seine cruise, as it took us to a part of Paris less well-known to tourists. The locks were interesting, as was the commentary. We went further than I had expected and it was easy to find the Metro station to return to the city centre. 2011-09-13 Keith M G , Wonderful tour - would highly recommend. 2011-09-12 E B , Very different side of Paris and a fun trip. The guide talked much too fast. A little map showing how to reach the Metro with brief instructions of which line to catch to get into central Paris would be helpful for older folks not familiar with the Metro system!!! 2011-09-11 robert c ,
