ITINERARY:
1st
Day: STRASBOURG – BUDAPEST
Rendezvous at
Strasbourg in the afternoon. Boarding and settling into your cabin.
Presentation
of the crew. Welcome cocktail, dinner. Free evening or optional
traditional evening in Budapest.
2nd
Day: BUDAPEST
Breakfast on board. At
8h, depart of the boat or optional guided tour of the city. Budapest,
with its numerous edifices situated on each side of the river, is
unspeakably rich in historic emblems. We will rejoin the boat in
Esztergom for lunch. In the afternoon, freedom to visit Esztergom.
First capital of Hungary. The neoclassical basilica and the ancient
royal palace make Esztergom a city rich in monuments. Back on board for
departure of the boat at 19h for Vienna. Dinner and an evening's
entertainment on board.
3rd
Day: BUDAPEST – VIENNA
Breakfast on board.
Arrival in Vienna around 14h. Lunch on board. Free time or optional
excursion to the Hofburg (residence of the Hapsburgs). Dinner on board
and free evening or optional tour of Vienna by night.
4th
Day: VIENNA
Breakfast on board.
Optional guided tour of Schönbrunn Castle and part of the city. Vienna,
an imperial city and cradle of music, comes alive around the Cathedral,
the Opera, Schönbrunn Castle, summer residence of the imperial family.
Back to the boat for lunch. Free afternoon. Explore this marvellous
city at your own pace. Back to the boat for dinner. After dinner, the
chance to attend a concert of Viennese music (optional and dependent on
availability). Departure of the boat at midnight.
5th
Day: MELK – PASSAU
Breakfast on board.
Cruise up the most beautiful section of the Wachau. Arrival in Melk
around 10h. Departure by coach for the optional tour of the picturesque
village of Durnstein. Durnstein, the most famous town in the Wachau, is
swathed in the legend of King Richard the Lionheart and has a church in
the Baroque style. Back to the boat for lunch. In the afternoon,
optional visit to the Abbey of Melk. Atop a rocky outcrop which
overlooks the Danube from a height of more than 50 m, it is the symbol
of the most complete expression of Baroque Art in Austria. Back on
board and departure of the boat around 16h for Passau. Evening and
dinner with the crew.
6th
Day: PASSAU
After breakfast,
explore Passau in the company of our hostess. This is a university
city, full of music and theatre. In the winding streets you will see
its Baroque patrician houses. Lunch on board and cruise to Ratisbonne.
Dinner and accommodation on board.
7th
Day: RATISBONNE – HILPOSTEIN
Breakfast on board.
Optional guided tour of Ratisbonne. The fourth largest city in Bavaria,
Ratisbonne is an important industrial centre (BMW, SIEMENS, TRIUMPH).
The historic centre nurtures memories accumulated over 2000 years of
history. During this time, the boat will sail to Kelheim where we will
join it at the end of the morning. Lunch on board. Cruise on the
Rhine/Main/Danube canal, inaugurated on 25 September 1992, to
Hilpostein. Dinner and accommodation on board.
8th
Day: HILPOSTEIN – NUREMBERG – BAMBERG
Breakfast on board.
Arrival in Nuremberg around 9h. Optional tour of the city. Nuremberg
seems to come straight out of the Middle Ages. “The little jewel of the
Empire”, the old town gathers around the market place: Gothic edifices,
half-timbered houses, merchants' residences. During the tour of
Nuremberg, the boat will sail to Erlangen. Lunch on board and cruise to
Bamberg. Dinner and accommodation on board.
9th
Day: BAMBERG – ROTHENBURG
Morning's sailing.
Breakfast and lunch on board. Cruise to Schweinfurt. Departure by coach
for the optional tour of Rothenurg. A magnificent town perched high on
a hill, behind its ramparts huddle picturesque streets lined with
half-timbered houses and craft shops. Rothenburg, a “must see” on the
Romantics Trail. During this time, the boat will sail to Kitzingen.
Continuation of the cruise, dinner and accommodation on board.
10th
Day: WURTZBURG – WERTHEIM
Breakfast on board and
optional tour of Wurtzburg (residence of the bishop princes). A town
built on the right bank of the Main, Wurtzburg is a wonderful stop on
the Romantics Trail. Reflections of the vineyards mingle with the
imposing shade of the citadel, a symbol of the power of the Archbishop
Princes. During the tour of Wurtzburg, the boat will sail to Karlstad
where we will join it at the end of the morning. Lunch on board and
cruise to Wertheim. Dinner and accommodation on board.
11th
Day: WERTHEIM – MILTENBERG – ASCHAFFENBURG
Breakfast on board.
Tour of Miltenberg in the company of our hostess. Explore the market
place surrounded by half-timbered houses, the High Street, the former
Town Hall. All of them make Miltenberg the pearl of the Main. Lunch on
board and cruise to Aschaffenburg. Dinner and accommodation on board.
12th
Day: ASCHAFFENBURG – FRANKFURT – MAINZ
Breakfast on board.
Departure of the cruise for Frankfurt. Optional tour of Frankfurt. A
place of business, a commercial hub, the mixture of ancient and modern
will be bound to surprise you. Back on board for lunch and cruise to
Mainz. At the confluence of the Rhine and the Main, sheltering beneath
its thousand year old cathedral, Mainz, the city of Gutenberg, is the
link between past and present. Arrival at the end of the afternoon.
Tour of the city in the company of our hostess. Dinner and gala
evening. Accommodation on board.
13th
Day: MAINZ – STRASBOURG
Breakfast on board.
Aerobics session. Lunch on board and cruise to Strasbourg. We will go
through the two biggest locks on the Rhine: Iffezheim and Gambsheim.
Arrival in Strasbourg around 14h. Disembarkation. End of our journey.
