greatest works
Discover the natural
beauty of the villages of the Amalfi Coast on this leisurely
sightseeing tour.
Itinerary:
The tour starts from
Piazza Lauro at 0755h (7.55am). Accompanied by a guide you will board a
coach for a beautiful drive along the Amalfi coast to Positano, Amalfi
and Ravello.
Your first stop is
Amalfi, beautifully situated on limestone cliffs, overlooking the Gulf
of Salerno. Its name is derived from the nymph, Amalfi, loved by
Hercules. Amalfi's incredible cathedral, sitting atop a wide flight of
steps, dominates the entire square and is the town's centrepiece.
Housed in the magnificent Cathedral are the remains of Saint Andrew,
the Patron Saint of Amalfi and of Scotland.
Continue to Ravello,
one of the most attractive destinations on the Amalfi Coast. Most of
Ravello’s monuments date back to the 11th to 13th centuries,
when Arab-Sicilian art reached its peak. The magnificent Villa Rufolo
functioned as a watch tower in ancient times and its panoramic garden
was the setting for many of the works by Richard Wagner. You can wander
through the tropical plants and enjoy fabulous views of the coastline
in this beautiful garden.
At the end of the tour
you will be driven back to Sorrento. You will be dropped off at the
Piazza Lauro around 1600h (4pm).
